Independent Animated Shorts and Applied Animation
Holland Animation Film Festival, the unique five-day international meeting place for all
professionals, animation lovers, producers, students, upcoming talents and all interested audiences. Featuring retrospectives, thematic programmes, master classes, talk shows, exhibitions, installations, SFX/VFX and much more.
Through the entry forms, Dutch productions for the competitions shorts, commissioned films and European student films can also apply for the competition Dutch animation (audience award).
HAFF organizes the following competitions in 2010:
An international competition for short animation films with a maximum length of 60 minutes.
The competition is open for all independently produced shorts and television specials or authors animation. The non-narrative section is open for experimental, abstract and cutting edge animation. A Grand Prize will be presented in the categories narrative and non-narrative films.
Competition commissioned films
The international competition for animation made under commission for cinema, television and the internet . Commissioned animation should be understood in the widest sense: announcements, title sequences, stings, educational and information films, music videos, motion graphics, use of tricks or special effects in films and commercials effected by a technique other than live action. In four specific categories: publicity and promotional films, music videos, educational and information films, station calls and film leaders. A first prize will be awarded in each category and a Grand Prize to the best film in competition. The category awards come in the form of a Golden Pegbar, nicknamed the Joop Geesink Award, after the famous precursor of Dutch animation who was a great creator of applied animation.
Competition European student films
The competition for student films from the Netherlands and Belgium will develop into the competition for European student films. In recent editions HAFF has screened already international selections of student films and now the time has come for a European competition. The competition for short European student films is open for all European
student films with a maximum length 60 minutes. Graduation films as well as films from other years’ courses can be submitted. The competition is open for films produced at European art schools and film schools. Films produced at schools from the following countries can be submitted for the competition for students: Albania, Austria, Belgium, Bosnia-Hercegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxemburg, Monaco, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland. Portugal, Romania, Slovenia, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden,
Switzerland and United Kingdom. Student films from countries outside of Europe can be entered for the international competition for shorts. A Grand Prize will be appointed to the best European student animation.
For the first time HAFF organizes an international competition for feature-length animation films. The competition is open for all animated films over sixty minutes. A Grand Prize will be appointed to the best feature animation.
Competition Dutch animation (audience award)
The competition for Dutch animation is open for all Dutch animated film productions such as commercials, promotional films, music videos, educational or information films, film or television leaders, television films, episodes from television series, independently produced films, student films, broadcast design and industrial films. The award will be
chosen by the festival audience. The mixture of all genres in competition showcases an varied and interesting showcase of the finest Dutch animation.
