1. HISTORY: Aegean Culture: The city of Izmir has a rich history dating back to ancient times, a territory that has been home to different civilizations. What are the implications of it today? Can we identify “an Aegean Culture” that is specific to this land, different than what nationalities or ethnicities describe?

2. GEOPOLITICS: The Westernmost: Geographically, Cesme, Izmir is situated at the westernmost point of Turkey, that is also described as Anatolia or Asia Minor. What implications prevail in the nation-wide context, or in the multicultural social fabric of the city?

3. URBAN: Year-long Resort: Becoming the top summer destination of Turkey ove r the past 10 years, Cesme draws high quantity of local and foreign tourists in summer. The winter season feels deserted except for some people who chose to dwell in the city year-long creating alternative lifestyles for themselves. As the move to the rural is becoming a trend, how can we create life styles and habits that embrace the escape form the city life and possess sustainable components for a year-long habitation in a rural/resort town?
