Cinekid, an international film festival for children based in Amsterdam (Nl), la Gaîté Lyrique, a center for digital culture in Paris (Fr), KIKK, a festival, creative platform and Fab Lab from Namur (Be) and WoeLab, an African centre for technological democracy based in Lomé (Tg), are issuing an open call for the creation of three media artworks as part of Les Voyages de Capitaine futur, a European cooperation project supported by Creative Europe.

[ CONTEXT ]

Les Voyages de Capitaine futur aims to empower citizens with technology culture from a very young age. The four partners are developing the project around Capitaine futur, an imaginary character whose journeys introduce children to contemporary art and new media, which serve as tools for emancipation and learning. The three original media artworks, which will be paired with creation workshops and online tutorials and exhibited in Paris, Amsterdam, Namur and Lomé.

[ CREATIVE FIELDS ]

The call for proposals is open to all transdisciplinary art forms that use, experiment with, subvert and investigate media from a critical, creative, sensory-based perspective: artificial intelligence, art & science, robotics, bioart, machine learning, smart objects, interactive and speculative design, re/upcycling, etc.

[ THE THEME ]

We invite artists to offer their perspective on hybrid forms of ecology in which our technological environments have become natural elements. A new world where a host of singular species coexist: virtual animals, mutant plants, electronic viruses, insatiable computers, memory rocks, tentacular networks, autodidact algorithms, domestic robots, cybernetic forests and more. Is this organic, composite world an intermediate stage of natural evolution or a ‘big bang’ of singularities? What tools must we craft to survive, experience, adjust to and negotiate these new types of coexistence?

“Supernatural: stories of worlds to come” aims to elicit poetic visions, narrative approaches and fictional tales that recount a land where humans are no longer central and undergo a metamorphosis upon contact with heterogeneous beings.
