Professor in Sound\/Media Arts Academy Cologne<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Academy of Media Arts Cologne (KHM), founded in 1990, is committed
\nto advancing an interdisciplinary approach to media art, offering a
\nsophisticated educational concept which connects and integrates the
\ndepartments of Art, Film and Television and Art and Media Studies within
\na four-year degree course and a two-year postgraduate course in
\nAudiovisual Media. The acquisition of practical artistic experience
\ncombined with theoretical and technical competences is considered paramount.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The Academy invites applications for a Professor in Sound (Level W3
\naccording to German civil service employees’ tariff).<\/p>\n

The appointee will be expected to cover the extensive field of sound in
\nresearch and teaching as well as the entire range of possibilities in
\nexperimental composition within a media context.<\/p>\n

We are interested in candidates with an established reputation as
\nmusicians or sound artists, particularly composers, who are interested
\nin challenging, integrative and cooperative work with students and
\ncolleagues in audiovisual media and open to cross borders between
\ndifferent artistic and musical genres and categories.<\/p>\n

One of the major tasks will be the direction of the sound lab
\n(Klanglabor), a field for experimental projects and advanced research
\nand teaching to be operated and further developed as an independent unit
\nwithin the departments of Art, Film and Television and Art and Media
\nStudies.<\/p>\n

Candidates should have a theoretical and scholarly profile in the field
\nof the chair, particularly an expertise in theory and history,
\nphilosophy and perceptual physiology of music and sounds in general.
\nApplicants are expected to have excellent knowledge of the materiality
\nof sounds and of acoustic phenomena in the broadest sense, but also of
\ngenerative processes in sound production. We are interested in
\ncandidates dedicated to the socio-political and sub-cultural fields of
\ncontemporary \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcsound worlds\u00e2\u20ac\u2122. Although the chair is assigned to the
\ndepartment of Art and Media Studies, artistic and theoretical courses
\nare taught on an interdisciplinary level across the different
\ndepartements of the KHM.<\/p>\n

The chairholder is expected to contribute to the development of
\ncurricular concepts and models within the studies of Audiovisual Media.<\/p>\n

Pedagogical aptitude and language skills are a general prerequisite
\nincluding the willingness to contribute to the academy\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s self-organization.<\/p>\n

The KHM strives to raise its female quota in research and teaching
\npositions. Applications by women will be given priority if
\nqualifications and professional expertise are equivalent to those of
\nmale applicants and reasons specific to individual candidates do not
\nprevail. Applications by disabled persons and those with equal status
\naccording \u00c2\u00a72 SGB IX (German code of Social Law) are specifically encouraged.<\/p>\n
