Featuring multidisciplinary sound art, experimental music and composition from disparate geographic locations, deepwhitesound supports the diffusion of media and digital distribution. All work featured is offered without charge as full-release, artist-constructed digital downloads under the Creative Commons license. deepwhitesound values diverse local and net-based community, using social media as a platform for collaborative projects and communication between artists, organizers and curators.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>In 2013, deepwhitesound was named recipient of a grant via Precipice Fund, made possible through Portland Institute for Contemporary Art and Calligram Foundation, part of the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts regional regranting program. Work released by deepwhitesound has been featured on numerous radio programs including 90.3 KTUH in Honolulu, HI USA, RadioCapsule in Paris, France, Non-Radio in Mexicali, Baja California, Mexico, Hollow Earth Radio in Seattle, WA USA, and Free Lab Radio on 104.4 Resonance FM in London, England.<\/p>\n<p>DWS releases quarterly issues featuring downloadable works centered around experimental audio. Historically, projects have fallen under a number of mediums \/ genres: spoken word, harsh noise, instant composition, tape music, vocal music, field recording, noise rock, drone, ambient, composition for traditional and non-traditional instruments, folk, sound installation, generative music, interactive socially engaged projects and more. We are interested in continuing to push and confuse boundaries of \u00e2\u20ac\u0153sound art\u00e2\u20ac\u009d by providing support and exposure opportunities to artists, musicians and collectives who do the same.<\/p>\n<p>DWS is particularly interested in: drone, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153weirdo\u00e2\u20ac\u009d folk \/ pop \/ rock, harsh noise, musique concrete, prepared \/ invented \/ homemade instruments, subdued ambient \/ glitch \/ quiet tones, field recording \/ environmental recordings, experimental variants on traditional ethnic music, sound composed for tape \/ cassette loop experimentations, sound composed for installation or film, conceptual releases (graphic scores, apps, text-based music), new media \/ digital downloads that blur the distinction between media.<\/p>\n<p>Call for Proposals \/ \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Expanded Audio\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n<p>Since 2015, DWS has been focused on releasing work that emphasize the digital download as an artist-constructed object following the concept of \u00e2\u20ac\u0153expanded audio\u00e2\u20ac\u009d. Proposals for releases will ideally feature not only audio work, but an outline of additional media to be included with downloads in order to create unique, one-of-a-kind digital packages that push the boundaries of sound art. Examples of work that may be packaged with audio work include but are not limited to images, text-files, stand-alone applications, html \/ web files, phone apps, etc. The intention is to provide high-quality releases that elevate digital downloads from disposable media to digital art objects in the interest of perpetuating the ideology that free art is not forgettable art.<\/p>\n<p>Please note that proposals featuring ONLY audio work will not be denied, however artists should be willing to discuss options and ideas regarding \u00e2\u20ac\u0153digital packaging\u00e2\u20ac\u009d concepts.<\/p>\n<p>This call for proposals is open to everyone, including current deepwhitesound artists.<\/p>\n<p>Please submit:<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Main Contact Name<br \/>\n&#8211; E-mail Address<br \/>\n&#8211; Location (City \/ State or District \/ Country)<br \/>\n&#8211; Artist \/ Collective \/ Project Name<br \/>\n&#8211; A description of the proposed audio work (Genre, History, Concept, etc.)<br \/>\n&#8211; Links to Work Online (Soundcloud, Bandcamp, Website, etc.)<br \/>\n&#8211; Proposal for \u00e2\u20ac\u0153expanded audio\u00e2\u20ac\u009d portion of release (see previous section for details)<\/p>\n<p>The most competitive submissions will take into consideration \u00e2\u20ac\u0153expanded audio\u00e2\u20ac\u009d concepts and will have a proposal outlined. Submissions from geographic locations not yet represented on DWS are also competitive.<\/p>\n<p>Please note that content on deepwhitesound will be made available during the following months: March, June, September and December.
