Piksel is an international event for artists and developers working with Free\/Libre and Open Source technologies in artistic practice. It is organized in Bergen, Norway, and involves participants from more than a dozen countries exchanging ideas, coding, presenting art and software projects, doing workshops, performances and discussions on the aesthetics and politics of free technologies, free culture & art.<\/p>\n
Piksel16, ZERO-level, wants to focus on the biological and social aspects of the sea as a sustainable environment. Zero in the meaning of: zero-emissions, zerofootprints, zero-waste, zero-energy,
\nzero-pollution, zero-plastic, zero-trash. Also Zero encourages bioefficiency, bioecology, marine inheritance, sustainable maritim transport, sea communication, civil society, water as a playground, and civil engagement.<\/p>\n

open CALL for PROJECTS<\/p>\n
For the exhibition and other parts of the program we currently seek projects in the following categories:<\/p>\n
1. Installations<\/p>\n
Projects to be included in the exhibitions.
\nThe works must be realized by the use of free and open source
\ntechnologies. For Piksel16 we specially encourage projects in the field
\nof DIY BIOart and renewable\/sustainable technologies to apply.<\/p>\n
2. Audiovisual performance<\/p>\n
Live art realized by the use of free software and\/or open\/DIY
\nhardware.<\/p>\n
3. Presentations<\/p>\n
Innovative DIY\/open hardware and audiovisual software tools or software
\nart released under a free\/open license. (Also includes presentations of
\nartistic projects realized using free\/open technologies.) For Piksel16
\nwe specially encourage projects in the field of DIY BIOart and
\nrenewable\/sustainable technologies to apply.<\/p>\n
4. Workshops<\/p>\n
Hands on workshops utilizing free software and\/or open\/DIY hardware for
\nartistic use. For Piksel16 we specially encourage projects in the field
\nof DIY BIOart and renewable\/sustainable technologies to apply.<\/p>\n
5. PikselSavers<\/p>\n
Video and software art based on the screensaver format \u00e2\u20ac\u201c short
\naudiovisual (non)narratives made for endless looping. Possible thematic
\nfields includes but are not limited to: sustainable resource
\nallocation, renewable technologies, energy harvesting, fair trade
\nhardware, free content, open access, open data, DIY economy, shared
\ndevelopment. The works must be realized by the use of free\/open source
\ntechnologies.<\/p>\n
