Call For Vaa Nida Art Colony Residency Applications For 2017-2018 And The 7th Inter-Format Symposium Along Lines<\/p>\n
The residency programme at Nida Art Colony of Vilnius Academy of Arts (NAC) is open for emerging and experienced artists, designers, architects, curators and researchers. NAC is the biggest art, residency and education venue in the Baltic region that provides the opportunity to live and work in the Curonian Spit National Park. Since 2011, when the A-I-R programme was launched, about 300 artists and other culture professionals have stayed at the Colony.<\/p>\n
Professional workshops and support, well-equipped spaces, and artists\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 community all year round. Artists and scholars who seek a quiet and spacious environment are welcome to experience a distinctive remote location and use the Colony\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s new spaces. Production of art or design works is facilitated by new professional equipment. If you wish to organise an exhibition in Nida, Klaipeda, Kaunas and Vilnius, we can put you in touch with local galleries.<\/p>\n
The atmosphere and life intensity d epends on the season and programme of the Colony. There are between 7 and 70 people staying at NAC at all times. In summer Nida becomes a busy (albeit not overcrowded) resort. Throughout September and partly May and June you will share the common spaces with art, architecture and design students and their professors. During August you will be accompanied by doctoral researchers and Nida Doctoral School. From October to April you will enjoy solitude, occasionally accented by art professionals or students arriving to the Colony for workshops.
\nLiving and social conditions are provided to ensure a comfortable environment. Each of the five residencies occupies two floors with 65 square meters of floor space and is equipped with all the necessary facilities.<\/p>\n
NAC call for Individual residency applications<\/p>\n
Residencies between August 2017 and July 2018
\nDuration \u00e2\u20ac\u201c one to four months (preferred from two months).
\nGrants and costs: No grants are currently a vailable; selected candidates are issued a letter of support for individual grant seeking. Studio and living space rent for selected residents costs 400\u00e2\u201a\u00ac per month, including all taxes, use of equipment, Wi-Fi, communal spaces and bicycles.
\nEducational opportunity: NAC encourages its residents to give a workshop at local high school or art school in September-December 2017 in exchange of the ~200 EUR fee.<\/p>\n
Nida Doctoral School (NDS) residencies
\nfor practice and theory based doctoral students<\/p>\n
July-September 2017 (2 studios available for 1-2 months)
\nNDS is a non-degree doctoral program run together with Aalto University (Helsinki, FI).
\nNDS summer course. Selected doctoral residents are invited to join the intensive course on research methods and methodologies in the context of visual and performing arts, design and architecture on August 21-26, 2017.
\nAmong tutors are: Dr Joanne Morra (Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts London ) and Dr Marquard Smith (Journal of Visual Culture and UCL Institute of Education). Full concept & application details.
\nCosts: The same conditions as for individual residencies apply, however selected doctoral residents are offered the summer course at no tuition fee as well as 5 ECTS credits.<\/p>\n
Call for participants for the 7th Inter-format Symposium Along Lines<\/p>\n

\nThe symposium brings together around 40 professionals (artists, musicians, philosophers, scientists, archaeologists, and other researchers) to reflect on the line as a very basic visual element and medium of knowledge. Taking i t as a symbolic as well as analytical instrument the symposium presents different strategies to sketch and connect through methods of mapping, walking, recording etc. Full concept & application details.
