The residency expenses need to be covered by the applicants. <\/p>\n<p>We will select around 20 artists\/artist groups to work at the Station for periods from one week up<br \/>\nto several months, the desired length of the stay should be stated in the application.<\/p>\n<p>Since 2009 the Bioartsociety is organizing the Ars Bioarctica Residency programme together with the<br \/>\nKilpisj\u00c3\u00a4rvi Biological Station of the University of Helsinki. Until now more than 100 artists,<br \/>\nscientists, and practitioners have been developing work at the Station on topics related to biology,<br \/>\necology and life sciences.<\/p>\n<p>The Kilpisj\u00c3\u00a4rvi Biological Station provides the residents with a combined living and working<br \/>\nenvironment, a basic field laboratory, internet connection and sauna, and the same possibilities and<br \/>\ninfrastructure as its scientists and staff. This includes access to scientific equipment, laboratory<br \/>\nfacilities, the library and seminar room as well as the usage of field equipment. A dedicated mentor<br \/>\nin Kilpisj\u00c3\u00a4rvi will familiarise residents with the local environment and customs.<\/p>\n<p>Kilpisj\u00c3\u00a4rvi is situated in the area where S\u00c3\u00a1mi culture has it&#8217;s roots. The S\u00c3\u00a1mi are the only<br \/>\nindigenous people in the northern parts of Norway, Sweden, Finland and Russia, as well as the whole<br \/>\nof the European Union. They inhabited the area long before any state borders were drawn.
