OPEN CALL for the Kramatorsk (Ukraine) Artist Residency program \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Diffusion\u00e2\u20ac\u009d
\nDescription: Project \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcDiffusion\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 came to life in 2016. It aims at bringing together artists from different spheres (film and photography, multimedia, street arts, fine arts and crafts, contemporary art performance, dance, theatre, design, drawing, etc.) to create artworks that address important social and environmental issues and preferably involve local community in development of artwork. The Residency is open for artists both from Ukraine and abroad. The culminating moments of the Residency are final exhibitions on 14 of September in Mariupol Art Center and on the 28th of September in the Kramatorsk Art Museum where the artworks created during the Residency will be shown.<\/p>\n
Kramatorsk and Mariupol are small industrial, but very green towns that due to geo-political turbulence became a kind of centers of Southeast Ukraine: The difference is leys in Mariupol being costal port city and Kramatorsk is steppe city. By choosing Kramatorsk and Mariupol as the base for the residency we hope to offers a unique experience when it comes to discovering the cultural transitions which are so characteristic to all \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcPost-Soviet\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 era of the Eastern European countries. Feedback and experience of the first two editions of \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Diffusion\u00e2\u20ac\u009d have shown that the acclimatization process which accompanies the residency in a new city full of contrasts invariably generates creative impulses that sooner or later manifest themselves in some form of artistic expression. Participants present their depiction of their sensations to local people by giving them a chance to view their region through the eyes of a stranger.<\/p>\n

\nDuration of the Residency: The Residency will take place between 7st September 2019 and 28th September 2019. The participants should commit to stay from 1 to 3 weeks. From 7 to 15 we will be working in Mariupol, after that we will relocate to Kramatorsk.
\nDisciplines Supported: The Residency is open for arts professionals from a wide range of disciplines, including but not limited to fine art, photography; video, multimedia and performance art.
\nAccommodation: Participants live in hostel or in a shared house.
\nWorkspace\/technical information: The Program founders\/curators work together with participants and can provide support to the participants.
\nFees and costs: The program covers accommodation and shared open studio spaces costs for the duration of the Residency, some materials will be provided. Applicants are responsible for covering travel and food expenses\/daily allowances, additional materials costs etc. Access to analogue photo laboratory and video editing room can be made available upon demand. Some production (materials) support can be provided upon additional request. If required, the Kramatorsk Art Museum can issue acceptance\/participation confirmation letter to help the participants to obtain grants to cover their travel, insurance, food, materials related costs etc.
\nRequirements towards the artist: At the end of the Residency, artists are expected to present\/discuss\/share the results of their work with the local community in the form of artist talk, screening, exhibition, performance act and\/or a workshop. There is no age limit for the target audience.<\/p>\n

\nSelection process: The selection criteria will include previous experience and artistic merit of the applicant as well as motivation of the artist and the desire to engage the local public in contemporary art processes.
\nThe applications will be evaluated by the committee including founders\/curators of \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Diffusion\u00e2\u20ac\u009d, representatives of the Kramatorsk Art Museum.<\/p>\n
