\nWe are now accepting applications for our 2020\u00e2\u20ac\u201c2021 Ars Bioarctica Residency programme in Kilpisj\u00c3\u00a4rvi\/Gilbbesj\u00c3\u00a1vri, Lapland at the Kilpisj\u00c3\u00a4rvi Biological Station of the University of Helsinki.
\nThe residency offers a unique possibility for artistic work in a biological field station located in the subarctic environment.<\/p>\n
The residency aims to support artistic work in the sub-arctic environment in form of collaborations between art & science.
\nIt is aimed at professional artists, scientists and art&science research teams at all stages of their careers.
\nPlease note that the residency expenses need to be covered by the applicants.
\nWe will select around 20 artists\/artist groups to work at the Station for periods of two to four weeks.<\/p>\n
Ars Bioarctica re sidency programme is devided into 4 seasons and each residency period is either
\n2 first weeks or 2 last weeks of the month or the whole month.
\nThe residency periods available in this open call are June and October 2020 and January and March 2021.
\nThe desired period should be stated in the application.<\/p>\n
Since 2009 the Bioart Society is organizing the Ars Bioarctica Residency programme together with the
\nKilpisj\u00c3\u00a4rvi Biological Station of the University of Helsinki. Until now more than 200 artists,
\nscientists, and practitioners have been developing work at the Station on topics related to biology,
\necology and life sciences.<\/p>\n
The Kilpisj\u00c3\u00a4rvi Biological Station provides the residents with a combined living and working
\nenvironment, a basic field laboratory, internet connection and sauna, and the same possibilities and
\ninfrastructure as its scientists and staff. This includes access to scientific equipment, laboratory
\nfaci lities, the library and seminar room as well as the usage of field equipment.
\nA dedicated mentor in Kilpisj\u00c3\u00a4rvi will familiarize residents with the local environment and customs upon arrival.<\/p>\n
Kilpisj\u00c3\u00a4rvi is situated in the area where S\u00c3\u00a1mi culture has it’s roots. The S\u00c3\u00a1mi are the only
\nindigenous people in the northern parts of Norway, Sweden, Finland and Russia, as well as the whole
\nof the European Union. They inhabited the area long before any state borders were drawn. The area is
\ncalled Lapland, or S\u00c3\u00a1pmi (in North S\u00c3\u00a1mi).<\/p>\n
