DO YOU WANT<br \/>\nTO ADDRESS ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES AND PRESENT SOLUTIONS THROUGH YOUR<br \/>\nCREATIVE PROJECT, RESEARCH OR DEBATE , WHILE EXPLORING BULGARIA?<br \/>\nWoC Artist Residency 2020:<\/p>\n<p>In 2020 WoC team is looking for project proposals based on creating an awareness of the important<br \/>\nissues that the planet is facing, whether it is a social issue, cultural, political or environmental issue.<br \/>\nMore specifically, the main focus is to increase awareness on sustainability through art and design<br \/>\nprojects. The works will aim to show how art can help us deal with the rapidly changing world.<br \/>\nWorld of Co Artist Residency (WoC) is the first all-year round international artist residency program in<br \/>\nBulgaria. The initiative started in 2017 with the mission to create space for artistic exploration and to<br \/>\nintroduce international artists to the cultural life of Sofia. So far we welcomed more than 95 artists from<br \/>\nall around the world, working in art, film, literature, fashion and other creative disciplines.<br \/>\nLiving and working in the beautiful AiR apartment in the city center of Sofia, participating artists dive<br \/>\ninto friendly, comfortable but experimental atmosphere. By bringing together different areas of<br \/>\npractice, WoC generates new artistic processes and fosters creative energy. The Residency is designed<br \/>\nfor artists at all stages of their careers interested in experimenting with new techniques, developing new<br \/>\nwork, or focusing on research.<\/p>\n<p>The end of the residency will be celebrated by showcasing the projects in a group exhibition.<br \/>\nWhy artist residency in Bulgaria?<\/p>\n<p>Bulgaria is a country in Eastern Europe, with a rich cultural history and blooming contemporary art scene<br \/>\nworth to be discovered. \u00d0\u0153\u00d0\u00bereover the entangled Orthodox and pre-Christian beliefs and rituals, make<br \/>\nit interesting for learning symbols and mythology. The mixture of different influences \u00e2\u20ac\u201c Thracian,<br \/>\nRoman, Byzantine, Ottoman, Soviet and European, is still visible in the urban structures, architecture,<br \/>\nculture, and traditions. As a country in the heart of Balkans it is a great starting point for discovering the<br \/>\nneighbouring countries.<br \/>\nSofia is a vibrant capital, nestled in Vitosha Mountain &#8211; nice escape for picnics, hiking or skiing. The city is<br \/>\nfull of parks and green areas, but also caf\u00c3\u00a9s, bars and restaurants where you can try the tasty Balkan<br \/>\ncuisine. While exploring independent art spaces, galleries and museums, you will be surrounded by<br \/>\nbuildings from the Roman empire, to Art Nouveau, Brutalist communist structures and modern<br \/>\nsurroundings. If you stay in Sofia it is easy to find art supply stores and printing services on affordable<br \/>\nprices. The city is also connected to the rest of the country with buses and trains, if you want to discover<br \/>\nthe rest of the country.<\/p>\n<p>AiR PROGRAM &#8211; PROVIDED ACTIVITIES AND SERVICES<br \/>\n\u00e2\u2014\u008f Private room and desk in shared studio space in the AiR apartment, in the hearth of Sofia<br \/>\n\u00e2\u2014\u008f Providing individual discussion about your artistic work with established artist<br \/>\n\u00e2\u2014\u008f Providing technical and research support in the implementation of the artists\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 projects<br \/>\n\u00e2\u2014\u008f Connecting with the local artists through organized studio visits<br \/>\n\u00e2\u2014\u008f Curated open studio or group exhibition at the end of the stay<br \/>\n\u00e2\u2014\u008f Presenting and promoting the artists and their projects produced during the residency through<br \/>\nWorld of Co network, website and social media<br \/>\n\u00e2\u2014\u008f Group meetings throughout the residency:<br \/>\n\u00e2\u2014\u2039 First group meeting: Artist talks and goals for residence<br \/>\n\u00e2\u2014\u2039 Group sharing discussions on progress\/issues\/problem solving<br \/>\n\u00e2\u2014\u2039 Gallery show organization, artist statements, bios, invites, set up<br \/>\n\u00e2\u2014\u008f Building an effective online presence for artists &#8211; tips and advises<br \/>\n\u00e2\u2014\u008f Learning the basics of Bulgarian language with World of Co team<br \/>\n\u00e2\u2014\u008f Welcome pack and Q&#038;A onboarding session &#8211; practical information about your life in Sofia<br \/>\n\u00e2\u2014\u008f Selected list with independent art spaces, institutional art galleries and museums, art supply<br \/>\nstores, print shops, hardware shops, bars, restaurants in Sofia<br \/>\n\u00e2\u2014\u008f Curated list of art and culture events happening in Sofia during your stay<br \/>\n\u00e2\u2014\u008f Bulgarian SIM card<br \/>\n\u00e2\u2014\u008f Cleaning service<\/p>\n<p>ACCOMMODATION &#038; SHARED STUDIO SPACE<br \/>\nWorld of Co AiR apartment and studio \u00e2\u20ac\u02dc\u00e2\u20ac\u2122Concept\u00e2\u20ac\u2122\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 is situated in a 1895-residential building, at a lively<br \/>\nmain street in the city center of Sofia. Within walking distance are numerous art spaces, galleries,<br \/>\nmuseums, cafes, restaurants, bars, grocery and hardware stores. \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Concept\u00e2\u20ac\u009d is 140m\u00c2\u00b2 apartment with<br \/>\nthree fully furnished individual bedrooms with bathroom, fully-equipped kitchen with utensils, oven,<br \/>\nmicrowave, coffee machine, toster, fridge, laundry machine. The apartment is also equipped with iron,<br \/>\nhairdryers and laundry hangers.<br \/>\nThe shared studio space is bright shared open space, part of the same apartment, equipped with<br \/>\nworking tables, chairs, lamps, including Wi-Fi and all utilities (water, heating, electricity).<\/p>\n<p>RESIDENCY PERIODS AND DURATION<br \/>\nEach residency session is two months. If you decide to stay longer, please state it in you application<br \/>\nform.<\/p>\n<p><strong>I. January &#8211; February 2020<br \/>\nII. March &#8211; April 2020<br \/>\nIII. May &#8211; June 2020<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Please note: The residency month starts on the 5th day of the first month of the residency and<br \/>\nends on approx. 30th day of the final month, to allow for cleaning and preparation of the rooms<br \/>\nfor the next participants. You will be informed of the exact dates of your residency duration by<br \/>\nemail.<\/p>\n<p>APPLICATION DEADLINE<br \/>\nSubmit your application until 12:00 AM 30th November 2019 on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.worldof.co\/apply\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">http:\/\/www.worldof.co\/apply<\/a><\/p>\n<p>After being selected, WoC will support the invited artists in their efforts to secure funding through<br \/>\nexternal grants by providing them with an official invitation.<\/p>\n<p>ELIGIBILITY<br \/>\nThis opportunity is open to artists of all ages, at any point in their career.
