The Rules Do Not Apply
Open Call –

The Rules Do Not Apply is an open call for digital artists and creatives to explore, play with, and disrupt traditional ideas of art. Artists (or teams) can apply for 3 micro commissions (£4,000 each) to create a new piece of work that explores the changing world we all face. The micro commissions are a collaboration between Audience Labs at the Royal Opera House & National Gallery X in London. We are opening up access for digital creatives to respond to two artworks: Eve, a piece of digital choreography by Kristen McNally, shared as motion capture files, and an mural in the National Gallery collection, Crivelli’s Garden by Paula Rego. Both pieces act as starting points for the open call – they both reimagine and disrupt structures of power, refract the old and the new, and play with the unexpected. The call is for digital artworks that build on and reimagine, mash up and remake those further.

We’re actively encouraging applicatio ns from creatives who identify as a Person of Colour, D/disabled and/or a member of LGBTQIA+ community as we want to actively support artists from communities currently underrepresented in our commission awards. The call is open to international applicants.
