Telephone: An International Arts Game / Call For Artists!

TELEPHONE is a global art project based on the children’s game Telephone (also called Operator, Grapevine, Telefono Roto, Dengon, Stille Poste, Telefono Descompuesto, Phonebook), in which a message is whispered from person to person. In this game, the message is whispered from art form to art form. A poem could become a painting, and then animation, digital art, and dance. All kinds of media are welcome. Each completed artwork is assigned for translation to numerous artists around the world, so the game branches out exponentially.

This is the second large-scale game of TELEPHONE. The first was held in 2015 and featured in the New York Times, Hyperallergic, La Nacion, and numerous other publications around the world. The exhibition of that game featured 315 artists from 159 cities in 42 countries and this second game is expected to be three to four times larger. By number of artists, TELEPHONE wil l be 13 to 17 times the size of the most recent Whitney Biennial.

TELEPHONE, in its final form as a free online exhibition, will not only be a collection of 800+ individual works of art, but a single work of art created by a thousand artists, most of them strangers to each other, from all across the Earth.

Online, interactive exhibition scheduled to launch in Spring 2021.

If you want to play, we need to know your name, email address, what city and country you are playing from, and the art form you wish to use. We also need three examples of your artwork. It would be an honor to have you join our game.
