MUSIC SEFF is one of five competition sections of Szczecin European Film Festival.

Szczecin European Film Festival is an annual film event, organised by the OFFicyna Association, whose main mission is creative exploration and investigation of the generic boundaries of cinema. The festival is held in summer and autumn in Szczecin, the city located on the Polish-German bordeland, called by the locals „Paris of the North” due to its star-like street layout, Art Nouveau buildings and greenery that surrounds the city. Thanks to the city’s convenient location, the festival programme is carried out in partnership with an international network of organizers and presented as well in the cities of festival’s patrtners in Poland and Germany.

The competition section of SEFF is a selections of the most interesting and newest artists’ proposals from all over the world. It is a presentation of diverse genres of films – documentaries, music films, reportages, video arts, short features, music videos, animated films, which are distinctive for their high standards and multilayered aspects they present.

In addition to the competition sections, the festival offers a rich accompanying programme, including i.a. Crossing the Boundaries – a point of the programme by Tomasz Raczek (renowned Polish film critic), dedicated to the future of film genre boundaries; Let’s Talk Film – meetings with cinema stars (e.g. Agata Kulesza, the star of “Ida”, Oscar-awarded film dir. PaweÅ‚ Pawlikowski, SÅ‚awomir Idziak – cinematographer, known for “Three Colours: Blue”, “Black Hawk Down”, “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix” or “King Arthur”); “The Best Films In The World” – a presentation of the newest and most renowned film productions awarded within the course of the last year both in Europe and globally, e.g. Sundance Film Festival, Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, Berlinale (in 2017: “I Am Not Your Negro” dir. Raoul Peck, “City of Ghosts” dir. Matthew Heineman); SEFF Film Forum – a meeting of the international film circle; SEFF MINI – a film proposal for the youngest cinemagoers. The SEFF guests include famous Polish directors and actors (Roma GÄ…siorowska, Bartosz M. Kowalski, Maciej Drygas, Marcin KoszaÅ‚ka), photographers (Tomasz Lazar – a World Press Photo Award 2017 winner), film critics (Tomasz Raczek, Bartosz Å»urawiecki, Jakub Wróblewski) and artists.

The films presented at the festival are selected by a Polish-German Program Committee. Its members search for productions that cross the formal boundaries and exhibit an unconventional approach to reality – productions that are trailblazers. Premieres are considered especially significant. Awards are given by an international jury, which is assembled by the organisers. Apart from film screenings, a relevant and characteristic part of SEFF competitions are discussions with the presented films’ creators.
