“SUBMIT / The Queer Archive Festival / English
Introduced to the Athenian cultural scene in 2020 by the creative platform The Queer Archive with the support of Onassis Stegi, “The Queer Archive Festival” is looking forward to a strong comeback in May 2021 to celebrate the rich and vibrant queer culture of the city of Athens and beyond.
The second edition of “The Queer Archive Festival” will take place in a variety of traditional and alternative spaces within the centre of the city. In recent years, the Greek capital has grown into a genuine queer arts kernel. This burgeoning queer art scene does not only challenge dominant narratives, but also revels in the margins and the growing popularity of the fringes.
We invite submissions from contemporary artists, creators, scholars and curators working with moving image, performance, installations and any creative medium. Particularly, we seek radical, engaging, provocative, playful and visceral artworks dealing with gender identity in most different ways. The submissions can be of already produced works or original proposals specifically for “The Queer Archive Festival” and have to be created by, for, about, or of interest to queer audiences.
We do not suggest a specific theme for our festival editions, so that all applicants feel free to communicate their ideas, no holds barred. Each artist tells a personal story and we wish to provide a free platform for all.
All artists and curators who would like to participate should send their proposals until 20th of December 2020 using the online form: https://forms.gle/RF1ZJrRRwtBqBZze7
We are closely monitoring the Covid-19 virus guidelines and its impact on the festival circuit. The Queer Archive is bound to comply with any new protective measures against Covid-19 transmission.”
