Open Call for Experimental Filmmaker/Video Artists

S U S P E N S I O N

Suspension is a dispersion of particles; a postponement or interruption of ordinary thinking and
seeing; a transitory state of uncertainty and excitement; a bridge between belief and disbelief; or none of the above.

“Suspension” is an experimental film/video exhibition project. Filmmakers and video artists world-wide are invited to apply. Three artists will be selected by a jury of three critically-acclaimed experimental film/video artists. Each of the selected artists will present their work in a series of one-person exhibitions from January 22 to March 1. Each artist’s work will be featured for 11 days. We seek single or multi-channel video works, projections, digital installations, and new works that push the boundaries of the moving image. Works can be any length. Artists can show up to four films and/or videos.

All applications must be completed online at (https://visarts.submittable.com/submit/34866).

What we can offer: A large dark gallery with two spaces separated by a floating wall (see attached floorplan and Sketch Up file). Three HD TV displays, ceiling mounted projector, built in gallery sound system, two media players, two sets of headphones, DVD player.

Artists will be able to screen up to four works with VisArts equipment (3 TV displays, a single channel video projection).

Beyond that: Artists who elect to create a custom installation, will be responsible for any equipment beyond what we can provide. In this case, artists must be on hand to install their work with the support of the VisArts Gallery staff.

Jurors and Guest Artists: Fred Worden, Brandon Morse, Stephanie Barber

The jurors will screen and talk about their work in a series of evening lecture/screenings during the run of the exhibition.
