Documentary Films and Video Art Projects
The International Initiative for the Promotion of Political Economy (IIPPE) is inviting submissions of film and video art projects.
IIPPE is one of the largest international networks of heterodox political economists with a critical approach to neoliberalism. Part of IIPPE’s mission is to develop links between academics, artists, film makers and activists who are working for a more just and equal world.
In parallel with the academic conference, this IIPPE conference will feature a screening and discussion programme that relates to the themes discussed in panel talks. Thematic areas could include (but are not limited to): the global economic crisis, poverty, migration, gender, development, environment, privatisation, banking and financial fraud, refugees, the rise of the extreme right, armed conflicts, neocolonialism, etc.
Documentary filmmakers and video artists are invited to submit work of around 30 – 90 minutes duration, which can be screened followed by a discussion. Films which do not have English as their main language need to be subtitled in English. Work will be screened as a digital video file.
The IIPPE conference provides a unique opportunity for networking, which includes a conference dinner and an optional 3-day social programme where participants will be introduced to the political and economic history of Portugal through visit to historical places in and around Lisbon. Themes will include: Portuguese Imperialism; Revolutionary Change; The Contemporary Economic Crisis and Social Movements.
IIPPE is independent of any academic institution and entirely funded by presenter’s fees. Fees will be waived for film makers presenting their work, but please understand that cost for travel and accommodation cannot be subsidised by IIPPE.
To submit your work for consideration, please fill in the electronic application form: http://bit.ly/1TElKiW. Under the section “Tick the Working Group pertinent to your Proposal” select “Committee on Activism”. After you have done this, please contact Matthias Kispert (info@matthiaskispert.com) and Niels Hahn (nsc.hahn@gmail.com), with a note about your submission and brief description of your project.
The submission deadline for these proposals is 1st of May 2016. Submissions must be done via this website to IIPPE.
